Our home is ground zero for wind development with at least three major projects in an active planning and siting review process:
Canisteo Wind Energy Center - a maximum generating capacity of 290 megawatts (MW) from up to 140 wind turbines to be located in the towns of Cameron, Canisteo, Jasper, Greenwood, Troupsburg, and West Union.
Eight Point Wind Energy Center - a maximum generating capacity of 101.8 MW from up to 31 wind turbines to be located in the towns of Greenwood and West Union.
Baron Winds Project - a maximum generating capacity of 300 MW from up to 76 wind turbines to be located in the towns of Cohocton, Dansville, Fremont, and Wayland.
These projects intend to construct turbine structures that will range in height from 450 to almost 600 feet - taller than both the Statue of Liberty and the Washington Monument in our rural communities!
CMORE is committed identifying and openly discussing the impact of these industrial wind factories on our health, safety and welfare. Concerns include nonstop sound emissions and potential health risks to local residents, impact on wildlife especially birds, bats and raptors, decreased property values, and the negative consequences of industrializing our landscape with hundreds of 45-55 story metal and fiberglass structures and their impact on tourism and the rural nature of western Steuben County.
These projects are not economically feasible without tax incentives to the wind developer companies.
We need your help! - Join our group. Get educated about the harmful impacts of these projects that the wind developers simply gloss over.
